Why is this the best BLT in the world?

We are the best beer league team because we have been playing together for the last 13 years and our roster has rarely wavered. The core of the team is still intact. We golf and have BBQ’s every summer in which we bring the wives and kids and celebrate our families and the fact they let us play hockey and drink beers once or twice a week. We have been known to shut the rink down quite often during the season! We aren’t just a team ourselves we are a family, more so a band of brother and as much as times have changed our lives the HPL Beavers have always been a mainstay in our lives.

Why we deserve to win the Westy?

In May 2015 we took part in the ASHL North American Championships in Regina. Since we squeaked into the tournament we didn’t know what to expect. We lost our first game 8-0 to Vancouver and this was a wake up call. We finished fourth in our pool and again squeaked into the playoffs. We played the first place team (Regina) which we had already lost to that day 7-1, and beat them 3-1 with an empty netter. We killed a crucial penalty in the dying minutes with some uncharacteristic blocked shots. We were pumped and off to the finals where we would play a rival Saskatoon team The Beers. The Beers had knocked us out of playoffs 3 of the previous 4 years and also defeated us in the Regional (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta) finals in overtime, even though we scored first and the red didn’t see it so no goal… The Beers after the game admitted it was in… This only added fuel to our fire for the National Championship finals. We wanted to break the curse. We played our best game, and again uncharacteristic ally, we played shut down hockey forcing their best line to play in their own end. Up 2-1 with 17 seconds to go we iced the game with an empty netter and felt the weight and the curse fall off our shoulders. We were North American Champions!! Our confidence carried over into this past year as we finished 29-4-0-2 and clinched first place in January. We continued on to win Cities but again lost in the Regional tournament. We are looking to continue our success this coming winter.
